Who uses bows for pigs?

who  uses  bows  for  pigs?  and  what  type  of  equipment

I don't specifically go bow hunting for pigs,  but they do show up from time to time while deer hunting with my bow.  I use the same old PSE Phaser II with Easton 2213's and Thunderhead 100 gr broadheads for everything.

I just finished a informational Bowhunting video on hog hunting.  All Bowhunts.  I used a 70# Darton Compound & the last few a 60# single cam Darton of 60#s.  I used 2117 Easton Aluminums tipped with 125gr 3 Blade Roacky Mountain Razors.  The video goes to production facility in 2 weeks for release in mid. Nov.  We are headed out in 2 weeks to start another & will take about a year to film & finish.
I think wild hogs are the toughest animal a bowhunter can take on in the lower 48 states.  I have taken Big Black Bears, Caribou & Elk (big animals) with a Bow AND the wild HOG has proved to be the toughest to put down-even with a perfect hit.  They are just tough & mean.
If you have not been-GO-you will get HOOKED for sure & hopefully not by the hog.

I have two Browning bows, a Mystic and a raptor both set at 60#..  I use Whisker bisquit rests and 2115 eason arrows.  I like Magnus 100 grain 2 blade broadheads.   I guess I have been lucky as the hogs I have arrowed never went far.

at hunt n shoot  they  have camera towersn above  the  stands  they  have  some  huge  hogs  available  also  and  you  are  right  about  them being tough  the  small  pig  i  shot  too  a  shot  and  ran at least 75  yards  with  its   guts  strung  out  then required  a  follow  up  shot,   my  friuend  hit  one  qwith  his  longbow   right  thropugh  both  hams  and  ran  off  couldnt  find  it    the  smaller  ones  are  extremely  hard  to  hit  also  they  jump  the  string  just  like  deer  do   but  tend  to  just  move  out  of  the  way

Of the 6 guides I know that take out archers for Wild Boar, all have this one thing to say.  Leave the mechanical broadheads at home.  Only heavy, 125 gr. or better, broadheads allowed.  Bows should be of at least 60 lb. too.  I use my Oneida Black Eagle set at 72 lbs., Easton 2512 and a custom 137 gr. 2 bladed broadhead.  Lawdog

I'm definatly hooked on bow hunting wild hogs. Seems they are just made for it! I use a mathews LX at 70#, wisker bisquit, carbon tech arrows and buckblasters or thunder Heads- 125gr. Tough is right- use a heavier set up that you would for deer. It certainly does get your adrenaline going! Have fun- Tad

Tad, your setup and mine are nearly identical. I shoot slick tricks instead of Thunderheads though. I have used thunderheads in the past but have had just too many broken blades with them. The slick tricks have never broken or chipped on me.  They fly like darts shooting 100% exactly like field tips. Get some 125's and give them a try.

I'm in agreement with the slightly heavier gear for hogs. However with the 70 pound weight and carbon arrows they shoot so flat my pins are too close together now to see clearly between them. I suppose I will have to rethink my pin layout with this new Mathews Legacy!
