... and shot a 1.7-inch 3-shot group at 100 yards off sandbags. still haven't tried any factory hunting ammo except hornady 165-grain flat-bases. this certainly will do, but i suspect there is something more accurate out there. will try good ol' rem 150-grain core-lokts and win 168-grain ballistic silver tips next. in the meantime. i'll score the shop's last box of hornady 165 flat-base soft points because it sure is consistent with nice, round groups. i can shoot 'em into 1.5 inches. with experience, the boy will get 'em down there with pappy's groups.
tried some indian 7.62x51 mil-surp. lousy crap. 4 inches at 50 yards, and filthy. but it was worth $1.98 for 10 rounds - i think. :roll:

The Hornady SST's are a good choice...practicly any of the Interbonds are for that matter...I had some very good groups with my Bull barrel Survivor with Federal match 165 grainers...one thing I found out with mine... if I load to the recommended O.A.L. they grouped much better than trying to seat a few thousands off the lands...I know each rifle is different ...but you might try playing with the seating dept with the same loads you've already tried...sometimes you'll hit the right lenght and combination right off the bat.I also got some pretty respectable groups with the Combined Technology (Nosler-Winchester) 150 grain Partition Gold...they are a-bit on the expensive side though...Speer makes some pretty good bullets too and aren't too bad on prices...moving up in cost...but great bullets are the Barnes Triple Shocks X bullets...haven't got to play with them...but if your 308 will shoot them...they generally will do very well....same with the very expensive Swift  Scirocco's...that's one of the nice things about the 30 cals...you have a ton of differnt bullets from very inexpensive to out right outragous to fill the bill...not to mention all of the different powder-primer-brass-combinations to try, :wink:

Man I guess I am a skin flint...$1.98 for 10......thats high compaired to the fossil stuff I shoot!!  :-D  Must be nice to be rich!! Good luck with the 308..fish280
