Remington 40X,putting a Redfield micrometer sight on
« on: January 16, 2003, 04:20:08 AM »
:D Hi,I am about to buy a 40X in .30/06,I plan on putting a Redfield Palma sight set on it.My questions are;do you have to have a gunsmith drill and tap for this or is it automatically done at the factory? Also,do you have either the rifle or the sights for sale(new or used)? And finally,do you need a base for either the front or rear sights?Thank you,Jeff,276-783-9746.

Hi Jeff

Many Rems come drilled and tapped for the appropriate bases (or they USED to...). Either way, you'll need a rail (made by Redfield or others) mounted on the side of the receiver by two screws. For the front, if there's not already a base attached rather than drill & tap, buy a "band" type base from Mo's or Champions Choice or Creedmoor Sports. These just encircle your muzzle and are held on with two more screws. Scott Medesha of Apache Junction, AZ is a good source for all these things too.

When you get to pricing sights, make sure you're sitting down first.

Best of luck!
