John any tips on fishing for crappie in lakes with little cover?  As the dam releases water in my favorite lake the cover I normally catch crappie in is above the waterline.

Siskiyou, I have a similar situation here this year, we've had a long dry spell in Oklahoma and the lakes are low. Right now I'm catching the crappie along rocky shoreline...not great big solid rock shore, but the rubble like stuff.

I've hit em pretty hard for three days in a row, and tomorrow I have a money trip for em...I do a bit of guide work.

This year might be a good crappie year here with all the high water, but they will be shipping it to Southern Cal soon so that it can run down the gutters.

I have been wanting to get out over a month.  I think I bought my 2006 fishing license back in February and have not had the boat out.  There might be a major turn in the weather late next week.  Normally things are warmer this time of year.  I just checked a source and found out that my favorite crappie lake is in finde shape but the road and campground are nasty.  The road is about 15 miles of up grade and down grade.  It needs to dry.

I like your recommendation and will try the shale areas in lake #2.

Are you still having a lot of fires in Oklahoma?

Still having fires, still under a burn ban except the SE corner of the state. Things are starting to green up some, but we're still dry. We had a little rain one night last week, and I mowed the next day in a cloud of dirt...couldn't tell we had any rain at all.

Camped out last weekend, couldn't build a fire, just wasn't right.
