Has anyone seen or shot the new 25 SWM?  I just seen an ad for it and it seemed very interesting.  It as the same ballistics as the 25-06, but with a must smaller shell.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

There is a .25 WSSM  Winchester Super Short Mag. that about duplicates the 25-06 . The Sept.2004 issue Shooting Illustrated  page 18  has a story  about it.  Never heard of a 25 SWM. Short Winchester Mag. ??

Jon,

I think you are talking about the .25 WSSM.  As was stated, this is a shorter version of the the WSM, hence the name Winchester SUPER Short Magnum.

Yes, it does duplicate the ballistics of a .25-06, but in a shorter and fatter case.

I'm not too crazy about this particular round.  I would be much more interested if it were a 25 WSM, so that it would be faster than a .25-06, and perhaps almost as fast as a .257 Weatherby.

I don't think that this round is going to last very long, and it certainly won't have the availability in both ammo and rifles as the .25-06.

Jon,

Again Zachary and I disagree about the longevity of the "short-fat" cartridges from Winchester.  I believe that the .25 WSSM will be around for quite a while do to the sales they are generating.  They are disappearing out of the stores as fast as the store owners can get them in.  This will cause the ammo manufactures to bring out more and different loads for these new cartridges.  Just look at the history of some of the more popular cartridges we have around today.  Example!!  How many loads were available for the .243 Winchester when it was first unleashed on the shooting public?  I do agree that Winchester should have brought out the .257 WSM like they talked about in their survey they took.  That would have been a much better cartridge in my opinion but the .25 WSSM isn’t all that bad either.  Lawdog
