What happened to Howies 45-70

I know you like your new 308 but I am sticking with my 45-70.  At least for now it is going to be my Texas deer and hog gun.  I'd like to hear some more stories of bulet performance with various factory loads or even some handloads I could send you that work fine in my rifle.

hello   I  sold  my  45-70  after  it  busted  me  between  my  eys  and  cut  my  forehead  after shooting  a  big  hog  i  choked  up  on  the  gun  a  littlle  to  much  and  it  got  me  i  was  using  PMC *P 350  grain ammo  at  around  2050 fps  i  loved  the  gun   but  i  wanted a  guide  gun   i  love  a  45-70  and I love its performance even better.it  has  been  a  the  best  one  shot stopper  of  any caliber  i  have  shot  and  that  is  putting  the  scope  or  sight  square on the shiolder  and  shooting

So far the only scopes I have put on my 45-70 have been a BSA shotgun scope and a Millet SP1 red dot. both have long eye relief and some light gathering ability.  I also put a slip on pad to lengthen the stock a bit so it fits me better.  I bought the regular 1895 becaus I knew I would load some hotter loads and what little extra weight the regular 45-70 has over the guide gun would work for me.  I have been stuck on the 405 grain Remington biullet pushed to 1500 fps and really like the way it performs.

Howie--That is no reason to sell the rifle.  You should have kept the rifle and got rid of the ammo that bit you.  That 45-70 with those hardcast flatnosed 400 grain bullets at 1500 fps is the Real Deal.  You just experimented yourself out of a great hunting combination.  Shoot straight, rdnck.

Hey friend   where have you  been  hiding?  man  ive  tried  calling  you several  times  we  still  have hunts  to  do  i can  honestly  say  you  was  a  very  big  influnece  on  me  and  my  45-70  and  you  showed  me  what  a  45-70  can  do  i  still  cant  get  those  hard cast 405  dug  out  of  that  24 inches  of  tree it  penetrated,  the  good  thing  is   the  knowledge  you  gave  me  i  passed  oj  to  a  guy  at  our  lease  he  is  a  die  hard  convert  to  45-70  now  and  he  is  loading  black powder  with  his  loads  as  wee  speak,  if  i  would  have  stuck  with  the  loads  you  listed  and  gave  me     i would  have  been  ok   but  being  young  and  stubborn  i  was  trying  to  push  the  limts  and  it  got  me  a  cut  between my  eyes.  dont  be  a  stranger  and  i  appreciate  the  time  invested  in  me  and  really  enjoyed  our  visit  and  hunt  toether   the  pigs  are  coming  in  at  night  now   but  i  have  been  hunting  them  and  can  honestly  say  with  the  loads  you  gave  me  i  killed  a  total  of  12 hogs!!!! including  a  real  bruiser   thanks  again  my  fiiend   oh  how  is  the  wife?   and  how  is   the  shooting  going?
