G2 in a 10 inch barrel, would TC do it?

I noticed that TC is only offering the G2 in 12 and 14 inch barrels.  I like the shorter 10" barrels in the .22 and the standard pistol cartridges like the .357 and .44  I wonder if we asked if they would make at least a few calibers maybe just their best sellers like these in 10"  What do you think?

It would be nice. I do not know why the quit making the 10 inch. I have several and prefer them for open sight hunting.

Hi Redhawk  :D

I am sure for the rifle calibers the shorties didn't sell very well (of course I assume the calibers they offer the G2 package in now were they best sellers in the older Contender)  For the standard pistol cartridges though the 10 inch gets most of the performance out of the cartridge velocity wise and they are better for carrying and off hand shooting.  The 3 I listed the .22 match, .357 and .44 are most likely the best sellers in straight wall cases don't you think?  I noticed Taurus brought out some 12 inch revolvers lately too, maybe they all think 12" is "in" nowadays?  Too long for my tastes though.

Shorten it and re-crown. If you don't have the means to do it yourself any gunsmith/machinist can do it for you. Shouldn't cost much.   KN

Recently talked to Ed about getting a 10" .17HMR barrel.  He recommended buying a 14" T/C then cut and target recrown.  He quoted me barrel cost + $40 to do the cut and recrown by his gunsmith associate.  Knocked a few bucks off if you don't  need sights as well.  

I am brand new to the game, so far have a 10" .44Mag and Match 22LR.   Didn't think I wanted anything over 10" but now I'm leaning towards going with the full 14" .17HMR.  I'll wait and have Ed cut me a 10" .17HM2.

Yes I could do it myself and drill and tap for the front sight as well but if we could get TC to do it from the start that would be better still.  I am going to write them and see what it would take to get them to do it with just he 3 calibers mentioned, none of these benefit much from longer than 10 inch anyway.  If I was to go the custom shop route I would opt for the 9 inch.   But 10" from the factory would be better cost wise.

Most likely you will be correct especially if I am the only one they hear from.  However if there is enough interest we might actually see the G2 in 10 inch trim at least in the classic pistol calibers.  

I have heard a lot of talk about the G2 not being up to the old Contender in the trigger area.  That is the trend in just about all the Gun mfgs these days heavy creepy triggers are there to slow the lawyers down in my suspicion.  I would give the G2 a whirl if it is in 10 inch trim without having to go to the custom shop though that is always an option.  Could very well be that the 10 inch guns didn't sell well but they might if given a chance.

Mine didn't need any fixing.  Works great from the factory.

If there was a market driving sales for the 10" barrel TC would be making them.  Perhaps enough of a response will drive them to make some.  If one of us would contract with them to make a run of barrels and resell them perhaps that would work.  I understand they make custom runs for TCA and for re-sellers.  Anyone want to buy a lot and then sell them to us.

You are correct that I could go that way.  I may think about what Keith said about a 50 or 100 barrel run and see if that might be an option.  I shoot iron sights mostly and for that the longer barrels don't seem to work as well for me.  Shows too much of what is going on  :wink:  For off hand work the 10 inchers are a lot easier to hold up too.

i think the reason that TC has dropped the 10" barrels is because there are so many of them out there.  they have been making them for years (since the early 1970's) and there are a ton of them out there.  if you did a poll of the Custom makers, i'm willing to bet that more and more barrels are getting longer and longer...not shorter and shorter...
