I was out in the hot North Dakota Badlands last week "Contenderizing" the prairie dog population.
I had a ball in spite of the 100 dgeree heat. I shot most of them with a 14" 22 WRM and CCI TNT hollow point ammunition. This load is very accurate in my gun and I found that you can have a real hunt with such a gun. I also found a 2-6 X Redfield scope was plenty for what I was doing.
Many people see PD hunting as a long range affair. I found that I could really practice my stalking skills by getting within 100 yards of some of the varmints. I found that the CCI's didn't leave any cripples. They all pretty much expired in their tracks with an occasional backleg kick.
The toughest thing about the whole hunt was the heat. Being a snowbird( New England) it was hard to handle,, but I drank gallons of water.
If I am blessed with the opportunity next year to go again, IO'll use a 17 HRM in a 16" barrel.
