I saw this huge barrell at a gun shop last month. stopped by today and it was still there. I noticed it was for a Mossberg 500 12 Ga. 3" chamber full choke 38" . I have seen many mossy 500s. I know some of the old Mossberg's and revelations came with 30" barrels. I have one. But I have never seen a 38" barrel for a Mossberg pump. My son put it on his Maverick 88 to shoot the photo. If I don't put it on my Revelation, I might get some camo stocks and build a new one .
Shop wanted 60.00 for it. I bought it for 40.00. Blueing was bad, so I worked it over with O steel wool then OOOO steel wool. Blued it about 10 times and now it looks perfect. I did not need it but it is very rare if not one of a kind.

what is that like a 42" barrel or something?  it seems i read somewhere that after 32" you don't get any better patterning or velocity... plus i'm not sure i'm strong enough to shoot that without a rest

It is a solid one piece barrell (not an extension) with factory engravings from Mossberg. I had to clean it from both ends since I don't have rods that long yet. It is squeaky clean & shiny now. Illusion in photo makes it look like it gets bigger towards the end, not so. The barrell is correctly manufactured. I am still amazed at it.

Obviously someones idea of a "goose" gun. I have seen several 36" barrels on old bolt actions and single shots( long toms) but nothing this long on a pump. Would work great for clobering those teal that like to come in "on the deck".
Just another worthless opinion!!

Trap super barrel

I wish I could borrow that for a day.  I would think the guys at my trap range might get a laugh out of it.  if you miss you could bat the clay birds with it.   I have shot an older BT 99 with a 34" barrel before.  It was in fact a good shooting piece but one with a 30" barrel does as well. The guys get a kick out of my using a skeet gun O/U with 26" barrels every now and then for kicks.  Barrel length is a real myth and highly miss understood type of deal.  Longer barrels do not equate to higher velocities or tighter groups at all.  Most shooters are grossly overchoked given the performance of modern ammo with plastic wads.  Maybe the sighting and certainly the balance would be effected.

I know this sounds crazy, but I am considering having the end threaded to be able to install a 2-3" xtra full or turkey choke. Opinions?? Also, is it possible to have the barrel converted to accept 3 1/2" shells also?? thanks for any feedback.

yes rogmat , u got a good buy on that , ive used one of those for years at local turkey/card shoot , they arent choked real well??? the old field full , butthey are fun to shoot , an lot less felt recoil , they made these in the mid 70's , to compete with the marlin 55 goose gun , they all came in 36 so i guess mossberg went 2 more?? hehehh good find   guy,
