Better buy a Sauer soon
« on: June 19, 2004, 11:00:19 AM »
My buddy and I were just at a Gander Mountain Store (like a small Cabelas) and he was looking to make a rifle purchase.  He finally decided to buy a Sauer in .270.  What a sweet rifle.  Beautiful stock, fantastic trigger, supposedly a very accurate brand and the quietest safety I have ever ,not, heard.  Absolutely quiet.  This was a $1,200.00 dollar rifle.  They were on sale for $100.00 less cuz according to the Sales Manager the Gander Mountain stores were no longer going to sell them.  Of course we asked why and he said the Euro dollar was going so high in comparison to the US dollar that next year the same rifle will be around $2000.00 dollars.  I know I have heard that the Euro is higher than the dollar but this is bad news.  Now I am wondering, and I should have asked him, if the other European rifles were going to do the same.  Sako and Tikka come to mind.

The Sauers are right decent guns. Typical european workmanship with fine attention to detail. Also very good shooters. I might want to hire that sales manager for a financial consultant. If he knows what the US dollar vs the Euro are going to do a year from now, he has more insight than Wall Street.

The US dollar is quite low world wide right now. That makes our exports easier (and cheaper) to sell abroad but makes foreign made goods more expensive here at home. The dollar is up and down like a yoyo. Who knows what it will be like next week let alone next year.

Meanwhile, Sauers have always been a premium gun. Gander may drop them but there are many other retailers that will still sell the more expensive guns.

These are nice rifles but the old Sauers were in a class by themselves
