Recoil Reduction Question
« on: May 18, 2004, 12:08:37 PM »
I was thinking of a Mercury Recoil Reducer along with a Sims Vibration recoil pad on my Sako 300 RUM instead of a muzzle break.
Will this work as good as the muzzle break?
What are the benefits of each system?

Both the mercury and the Sims do help control recoil. The muzzle brake does a much better job but has some bad side effects. The 300 RUM is a very loud gun to start with. The muzzle brake will about deafen you and is even worse for anybody beside you.

If you bench shoot for sight in, try putting a sand bag between the butt plate and your shoulder. A heavy coat will help when you are hunting. I'd go with one of the recoil systems and forget about the muzzle brake.

I agree.. The mercury recoil reducers do help as does a good pad...  Muzzle brakes also work but do a terrible amount of damage to your hearing...  I like the Pachmeyer 'Decelerator' pads.
