Hello all,

I have a Winchester model 670. My question, is there anything I can do to improve my trigger pull like decrees the creep and pull weight?

If the 670 is uses a standard M70 trigger, the pull weight can be lowered to about #3 safely. Go lower with a factory trigger and it may not be safe. Timmney sells triggers for Winchester M70's. Factory triggers are adjutable for pull weight and over travel only. A good gunsmith may be able to get most of the creep out. A little creep on a hunting rifle is not a bad thing.

Yes mam! The trigger is fairly easy to adjust or it can be taken to a good smith.. who should be able to turn it into a really easy to control trigger. If you'd like to try it yourself I have somewhere an essay that can perhaps help.. A note though that adjusting a trigger carries a responsibility.. Do the job wrong and you can create a dangerous situation..people can be killed.. Pull weight and over travel are fairly easy, slack is more difficult, requiring modifications to the trigger mechanism. The Timney units are good solid well made triggers and are quite easy to install. They are fully screw adjustable for the big three-pull weight, over travel, and slack... Remember-- a hunting rifle trigger has no business with a pull weight less than 2 1/2 to 3 pounds and 3 is the better choice..

Sorry about that, I should have added that even though the model 670 is similar in many ways to the 70 they are not an exact match. I have tried the timminy trigger but it was not close enough to the 670 as it needed to be.

According to Timney their trigger will work but will require smithing to fit it. The stock trigger can be adjusted enough to allow the rifle to be more than acceptable for hunting purposes..

Donna,

1-Take the stock off of the rifle
2-With the barrel pointed toward you look at the trigger housing group.
3-The top screw that you see adjust the overtravel of the trigger.
4-The bottom screw adjust the weigth of pull. Turn counter clockwise to reduce-Do not reduce below 3lbs.
5-There is a screw behind the trigger housing group. DO NOT TOUCH THIS SCREW. It adjusts the sear/trigger engagement.
6-Get a can of brake pad cleaner fluid and thoughly clean the trigger/ safety mechanism before proceeding.
7-Go up to the Sniper Country web site and download the instructions for adjusting the Remington 700 trigger (it's the same for the 670.)

I have a Remington 660 308. I've adjusted the trigger on it to 2lbs, 7 oz. Howerver for a hunting rifle under hunting conditions, there is no need to go below 3 lbs.

The 670 is a variant of the Winchester M70 and uses a trigger very similar to the M70's. The Remington M700 and 660 use a completely different trigger assembly.. The instructions given were NOT complete even for the rifle they were intended for..
