jimmyjoe,

Admittedly my Rugers have custom Green Mountain barrels on them.  Reason is I don't like short 18" barrels.  All my .22lr's have 22" barrels.  But my ex-LEO partner and still best squirrel hunting buddy uses a standard Ruger 10/22 that he has had for close to twenty years and he gets his best accuracy using Stingers as do a number of others that I have hunted with.  A poll was run at our gun club and a large number of small game hunters used Stingers.  I am not saying that your rifle should shoot hyper-velocity rounds well, but to say that hyper-velocity cartridges are inaccurate is a miss leading statement.  If they were not accurate why do they sell so many?

What temperature are you shooting at?

Temperature here can run the gauntlet from 20 degrees winter to 110 in the summer.  I have found that the older I get the more I prefer not to hunt in the snow or when it gets very cold or when it get too hot(during the heat I go swimming).  I do go to the range if it is anywhere from say 45 to 100 degrees.  Hunting squirrels the temperature can run from 45 to 65 degrees during the fall of the year.  Small groups and tight lines to you.  Lawdog

If the hypervelocity rounds were shown to shoot into the size groups talked about here, why do the guys with the most accurate rifles around all use standard velocity lead heeled bullets to shoot the scores that they do?  Must like to waste money I guess.
