wouldn't this be just a 309JDJ in disguise? I think brass might be a problem with this round,also I don't believe T/C would chamber it in a contender.Maybe you can find it in an Encore.

The 309JDJ is based on the 444 marlin case.   The 7mm JDJ#2 is based on the 307 Winchester and is available in Contender barrels from SSK.

Yeah, I shoot it because I like a rim on it for easier extraction. Ballistics are right there with the .308Winchester. I also shoot the .356Winchester and have a barrel for the .348Winchester. Brass isn't that hard to find over the internet. All are fine for elk sized game +. 8)

However, this is in the Encore that can take the pressure of these rounds. A good .30caliber for the Contender is the .309JDJ or .300Savage.

NOW I'm getting interested!

Tell me more about who made it and the particulars. I have shot a Ruger No. 3 with a custom lightweight .348 barrel and think it is close to perfect for woods-hunting anything bigger than a coyote. The Encore must be a blast (literally).

Yeah, Fred at Bullberry made the barrel for me. It's about 14 inches and has an integral muzzle brake. It's on a light varmint contour barrel so between the weight and brake, it's a pussycat. I could also use spire point bullets if I felt like swaging them.  I don't know any reputable barrel-wright that would make a straight .307Winchester. If this were the case, it'd be a handloading proposition only as the pressure is a tad much for the Contender. My .307Winchester is a TCA unit made by T/C.
