I have grandpa's Savage 99F in .308 - 1954 vintage.  After cleaning out 50 years of copper and glass bedding the forend I really like it.  It had a vintage Lyman 3X scope on it but that is off now and I am using the traditional Iron sights.  It is fairly painful to shoot from a bench with the steel butplate but standing is no problem.

I just bought a 1950 EG .300, It's in about 90% cond. no alterations. I would like to find a peep sight for it. For years I only owned wins. and marlin levers and never really looked at savages but after seeing the prices go up I decided to buy one. I'm glad as they are a nice shooting rifle, and handle beautifully.

not many weeks pass on e-Bay without a few for sale, sometimes the Williams Fool Proof  that uses the back scope mount holes will go for around $40 in nice condition... least expensive peeper for 99's I've seen... Nate :

I've got a 99 in 250-3000.This is a take-down model with brass counter and Lyman tang sight.I really enjoy shooting this rifle accuracy being very good.I've made up two more barrels for it, one in 308, and one in 30BR.I shoot only low pressure castbullet loads so everything works out fine.I got it from an elderly friend with five boxes of his reloads. The bore didn't look to good, but shot a nice 1'' group with his loads. These rifles are a lot of fun to shoot, especially the take-down versions.

I've had an EG in 300 for years ,buelher mounts and a weaver K-K3,  The next one I've also had for quite some time, it's a 1899 H in 22HP.  It was drilled and tapped and had a weaver 330-I've since replaced the 330 with a Noske 4A,  The latest is a 99-375 with a Redfield 1 3/4 to 5.  Love them all, but the HP is my favorite .  I found 6 boxes of old Speer 228 70 grain bullets which it loves with 3031.

I love the old 99's.  I've 2 in 300(one a take down) a 30-30, a 250-3000 Feathweight(take down) and a 22 Sav. HP.  the HP ammo is available from Sellior-Belloit although it has a metric designation it is 22 HP..  Haven't shot anything with it yet but it should do about as well as any.  The 250 is a really fine shooter, under an inch for 5 shots at 100 yards, with cooling time between shots...
