Yeah, we're still here, just seem to be very few of us...Maybe I should try to shake things up a bit on the forum, but I'd have to have time first, I don't get much comp. time anymore, little kids tend to do that to you, gotta love em though!

I broke my ankle during bow season, so I can't get around alot. I live in east Tennessee and love to hunt these Mountain grouse! I have a 3 year old german shorthair that is doing very good on these nervouse ruffs. I just bought a 6 week old male shorthair from a good friend of mine, can't wait to get him started. My hunting friend and I are looking for a place to go in october to do alot of bird hunting. We have only grouse hunted but would like to try any upland bird hunting. Any advice on where to go to hunt? I dont want any guide walking with us, and want to use our dogs. Private or public land, dont matter to us. We went to wisc. last year for 6 days and had a blast, no guide, just a map and looked for good grouse cover and hit it. Somewhere kind of close, under 20 hours from east tennessee.

I'm not exactly sure if I qualify as an upland hunter. When the pheasants are in season, in conjunction with small game, I'll go through the brush hoping to bust one up. Or a rabbit in that same brush. I don't have dogs. I don't have a $2,000 O/U. Just an 870 Wingmaster (which is just as good looking and just as good shooting as a high-end O/U). Or when I'm stalking through the woods, I'll keep my eyes peeled for the elusive ruffed grouse. I've seen one several times in one neck of the woods, but never had the oppritunity to shoot it.

I've never killed a pheasant or a grouse. I hope to one day, but for now, the outlook is slim  .  :D
