nice ride on the dirt bike yesterday
« on: June 19, 2025, 01:50:16 AM »
took the trails to camp and back. 90 mile round trip without seeing a single house or other bike or atv. had the trails to myself. come the weekend the tourists with their atvs and side by sides will come flooding in. saw 7 deer and 2 coyotes and 6 turkeys, didnt mind sharing the ride with them. brother in law and his oldest son were out there. brother in law has an electraglide but hasnt had a dirt bike since he was a kid. they both took a spin on mine and plan to head to the bike shop today to see about picking up a couple.

Ah , you make me pine for the days I would take my Honda 305 Scrambler out to the gravel pits and see which would win, the bike and I, or the gravel pit.
Scrambler was heavy, with bobbed fenders and  a very small torque curve, but I ran genuine knobby on back and if I kept it in the small , fat of the torque area, I could go any where.

I had a couple of 305 Superhawks, and even a  305 Dream.

A good friend of mine had a Dream.  The first thing he did was get rid of the white wall tires, and remove the mufflers.

Pretty much what my Scrambler looked like except my front tire was  less off road style.

i had a 450 honda scrambler in high school. bought it at 15 with money i made working in the woods, loved that bike even though it was HEAVY for the woods, but it did great on paved roads and even ricer dirt roads. if i could find a nice one locally, even a 350 for a reasonable price id buy it in a heartbeat but restored ones dont go cheap anymore.

had to chuckle. you sent me down memory lane. back when i first got into motocross a buddy who couldnt afford a real motocross bike took his deceased dads 650 bonniville stripped it down and put knobbys and straight pipes on it and raced it. i dont think he won a single race but probably had more fun than the rest of us, buy the way he now owns a local bar/resteraunt and restored that bonniville to a gleaming beauty and has it parked next to the salad bar in the resteraunt. well at least till last year when he passed. asked his wife a few months ago if shed sell it and she said not right now but maybe in the future and shed give me first crack at it.
