Just passing some info on..

I know there is not a plethora of blacksmiths on GBO who are searching for tools, but for those who may be, here is a valuable tip for any new smith who is building his shop.

Rebound is one of the most primary points that is desired in an anvil.  Rebound can make the difference as to whether you are relatively fresh at the end of the day...or are completely wore out.

With good rebound, the anvil does much of the lifting of the hammer, without good rebound you have to lift the entire weight with each strike.

You c an test rebound by holding a hammer by holding a hammer perfectly level at about 6-8 inches, with a "pinch hold" at the end of the handle.  Now drop the head,
and the hammer should return at least half way to level.

Note; make sure you use a quality hammer.. Those who test regularly, normally use a ball bearing.
