« on: March 12, 2004, 07:18:23 AM »
found a colt gold cup for sale from an individual. i have a question. it is a 2 tone gun with a blued slide and nickel frame. no gold cups i've seen have been 2 tone. did they make any that way? also the price is $575 used with 9 clips, custom mag release, mag well, trigger job, and accurizing. is this a good price?

tgaines:  is it a gold cup or is it a gov't frame with a gold cup slide?  I do not recall gold cups in 2 tone.  If the slide says gold cup I believe the frame should have a GC in the serial number somewhere.  But, for the price that is being asked, with nine extra clips and the enhancements, it's a good price.  Question to you though - why the hay would a gold cup need accurizing, hmmmmmmmm?????????????????  Just a thought.  Mikey.

I doubt you got an authentic Gold Cup. I've never seen one in 2-tone. I've owned several GC's over the years and still have a Series 70. None of mine were particularly accurate or smooth out of the box except for the Series 70. All needed some "enhancements" and one brand new GC threw the rear sight off after 6 rounds. I also have a GC frame with an 22 LR Ace conversion kit. It's a real good shooter but I wish I had the original GC slide assembly for it. I had a S/S Delta Elite GC in 10mm that was a real dog. Brand new gun and it wouldn't hold a group better than a dinner plate.  So to answer Mikey's question, even the high $$$ Gold Cups aren't always accurate nor do they function as well as they should.

For the price, you really can't go wrong unless it's badly worn. Any Govt Mod Colt in decent condition will bring $550 or more and the accessories are a big plus. If it's a true Gold Cup slide, it will have a milled-in adjustable rear sight.

One thing not mention was the trigger, 70 & 80 series GC's had a trigger that was adjustable and wider than the standard trigger it was also skeltonized check that.  Of course any good gunsmith could install a GC trigger on a Goverment frame like I had done to my Commander so it felt like my GCs
