..Went down to local library to vote today...
« on: August 23, 2022, 05:53:56 AM »
This state is one of those which only allow party members to vote in primaries.  In recent years I have been claimed by the Conservative Party, since I attended a couple of their meetings, so I figured to "test the waters".

Come to find out, I am a "no party" guy..so no vote for me..except for a "fill out the term of a resigned congressman", vote for one office.

I declined to vote at all..

Well, you're in New York, I'm not surprised, their statewide corruption is legendary.

Can't say this is entirely bad, at least not on the face of it.  If you are trying to pick someone to run in your party, would you want others picking the worse candidate?

But its also what the founding fathers warned about concerning "political parties".

In what way?

Yes; their reasoning I suppose, is to avoid some of the "crossover voting" that goes on in some states, where some far less than honorable people from one party, will cross over and vote as if they were in the opposing party, in an effort to gain a dishonest advantage.

My wife and I voted early.  Interestingly, our ballots, Brevard County Florida ballots, HAVE serial numbers on them, are marked for candidates of the PARTY in which a voter has pre-registered, and it is thought (if only by me) that signing in to vote, showing picture ID, and getting a serial numbered ballot should be sufficient to keep the ballot stuffers from stealing State and local elections.  Floridians are not "shut down", hindered by Covid, or restricted to Mail In ballots, so a trustworthy election is a possibility.

I never noticed whether our ballots are serialized, but here in Texas a picture id is required  to vote.

Our newest School Board electee, announced yesterday, won by a "very close margin" according to one commenter at 14,xxx to 9,xxx.

"That ball [a mile high, a mile wide, and over the batter's head] was juuuuuuust a 'bit outside'," according to Bob Uecker in Major League.
