Of course, during the last 20 years of war, not all troops have seen combat. Even in the war zone, little was experienced by those who were "Fobbits", that is, rear echelon troops, who primarily stayed within the FOB (forward operating base).
One can be assured however, that those who were Special Ops, saw some action..usually much action.
For instance, my nephew who is now retired on pension from the Army, being a mechanic, was a fobbit while in Iraq...rarely going outside the wire. He had done his action in the Iraq/Iran war and Desert Storm.
On the other hand, my grandson, being Spec Ops Marine, in Iraq at the same time, spent far more time outside the wire, than inside the forward operating base. Sometimes going out for days on haji hunting missions.
The very nature of Spec Ops demands that they be "where the fight is going on".
So far as how Crenshaw votes..I guess we cannot account for that, other than each person being a composite of their life experiences.
