finished my last book..
« on: May 25, 2022, 09:21:42 AM »
Last book I read.."Hou (325 pgs) 8).  The one before that was "The Longest Kill", by Sgt Craig Harrison..a soldier with the UK forces..speaking of his adventures in Afghanistan, including his temporary record holding kill shot at 2,475 meters. (310 pgs)

Figured it was time for a change of pace, so I picked up a book I read years ago, "The Baptist Heritage".

A bit shorter (205 pgs), plusI needed a refresher.  It has a nice feature, where there is a quiz after each chapter...to ascertain if one is reading with full comprehension.  We will see how it goes.

Pleased to hear you guys are regular readers..it does so much to broaden our perspectives..

Keep up the good work..  By re-reading a book I read perhaps 30 years ago, I find details I may have missed.  Information regarding that therewas friction between those Baptists who favored certain basic tecahings of Calvinists or Arminians..  Today that is still to a degree, a matter of geography, but not so much as it was a century ago.
Baptists it seems, are inclined toward individual conscience than most major denominations, many choosing the denomination as a way to resist the quasi regimentation of heirarchial organizations.

At least, that is some of what I gather from it..

The southern baptist convention is kinda bossy.
I prefer the Christian Church since they answer only to JESUS.

First, it was smost of the northern...American Baptist convention, that went worldly, and off the rails

Now it seems, the SBC is following suit.  They have always done better it seems, as independent bodies, not beholden to any overarching convention.
There are independent Baptist churches, which still hold close to scripture...and many non-denominational churches are patterned after the historical and independent Baptist churches, which is not at all difficult, since they do their best to follow the Bible...Sola Scriptura..

I believe your idea is sound, since denominations are man made.  In fact, believers were not even called
"Christian', until it was loaded upon them at Antioch.  Earlier, some called them "the way"..

Yes he did.
My wife said Marcus and his brother look like deranged killers, but, they are patriots who are real warriors.
I would be proud to shake their hands.

After Marcus got home from Afghanistan, one night some outlaws shot and killed his dog.  Marcus chased after them..during which he called 911.  It ended up that they were caught by the cops.
It was likely merciful for them, that thy weren't caught by Marcus himself.. :D   ;D

I just finished "Ghost Soldiers" about survivors of the Bataan Death March and their liberation. A good friend of our family was there, survived and lived until "82. The book I am reading now is "McKinley's Bulldog" the story of the battleship Oregon. I plan to reread "Jungle Ace" again soon. It is about Gerald Johnson a pilot in the south Pacific. He was a friend of my Dad's, along with another pilot from Eugene, Oregon Bill Runey.

Those sound like great reads...and to have a somewhat personal connection with them, makes them that much better !
