I finally got him.
« on: May 05, 2022, 06:10:29 AM »
A pesky mouse under the cabinet. He was a clever little bastard and evaded the traps several times, setting them off then stealing the bait. But he screwed up and it finally got him. Tried that Tom Cat poison it was worthless and did nothing. He’d just eat it down no problem. Wont be using that stuff again, find something different that works.

Gonna go look at the feed store im sure they would have something.

Standard Victory snap spring mouse trap baited with a piece of bacon, tied onto the trigger with thread, and a dab of peanut butter - well shown in the video.  Good tip too about straightening of the trigger to increase sensitivity in the video too.

Victor trap and cheese has always worked for me in the house. I keep De-Con out in the barn and it keeps the little boogers gone. Find a dead one now and then and that is all.

The old fashioned snap traps have
always worked well for me.
For the little tiny mice, I've used one
of those sheet metal box contraptions
that you lay down against the baseboard
and they go in the trap doors.
I didn't think that would work, and one
time I kept hearing a faint "peep. . peep"
and I looked and the thing had 8-10
little varmint mice in it
it's just the right size to submerge in a
5 gallon bucket half full of water
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Off subject: I have a Victor rat trap that I intend to modify for catching squirrels in my tomato garden.  (2' high sides)
I'll drill a series of holes and run some thin screws up from the bottom to protrude about 1/4" above the surface.
Plus I'll pry up the legs on the spring and put a washer under each one to strengthen the power.
I'll put it under a 2' long box that's open on one end and bait with peanut butter.
I'll put a rock on the box so the caught squirrel can't knock the box over and reveal himself to the neighbors.
I'll retrieve them after dark and put them in the trash.

But, they could leave my tomatoes alone. 8)

Victor trap that finally got him. Feed store recommended De-Con they sell a lot of it. Round Up for the weeds. The libs were not successful getting rid of that one.

Not yet anyway.  The Libs have been successful in furthering their Class Action suit against Monsanto's (The Deep Pocket) Roundup and the ingredient glyphosate, claiming (falsely imo) that it causes non-Hodgkin lymphoma among "other" cancers.

they watered down the decon. I dont even fool with it anymore. Go to a feed mill and they sell bags of pellets simular to what old decon was. It works better then decon ever did. Its supposed to be for mice in barns. if you want to kill grass and weeds just mix a round box of salt in a couple gallons of water. Or (dont let the libs see me giving this advice) Gasoline will kill anything and even today ;) is cheaper then round up. I used to go through about 3 big bottles of round up a year doing driveways and around the house. Now for the driveways i use a propane weed burner and for the lawn i just use weed and feed because i dont want to kill the grass. Ive got an old  brass pump sprayer i keep with gas in it to kill weeds where i dont dare use the burner

When I learned about glyphosate (say 1995), it was being sold to homeowners as "Roundup" at $100.00 per gallon.  I couldn't stomach that cost to kill weeds in my wildlife food plots, though it continued to be heralded by internet food plotters as "significant" in controlling emergent plants.  So much so that I contacted my fertilizer and seed distributor and learned about Credit Extra, a 41% concentrate of glyphosate, for $17.00 per gallon in bulk quantity.  A 2.5 gallon jug of Credit Extra makes over 200 gallons of 0.50% concentrate, which is enough to keep me in control of air potato, johnson grass, sandspur, and all other emergent vegetation prior to planting food plots.  I just added another 5 gallons to my stores for current and future use.

I had one set my trap off multiple times but never got him. I happened to be looking and saw him flying after he set off my trap, he was being launched by it. So, I set to opposing traps facing each other and when he got launched by one he bounced off the cabinet base and landed on the other. Done deal...

The last time I had a mouse in the house was circa 1978.
Don't have a clue why not.

You can also solder a small nail on the bail. A head shot puts the nail through the brain.

Way back when hantavirus was a big thing in norther NM we made out annual July trek up in the Sangre De Christo mountains to be cool and fish for trout. I thought I had our latest fifth wheel camper that was making it's maiden voyage to those parts mouse proofed. Yeah, right. After we got home we found mouse pills and I set a trap, caught a mouse, found pills, caught a mouse and this went on for 6 mice until no more mouse poop was found. Everyone of them was a deer mouse, the one's associated with the virus. I guess they weren't carriers as we never had a problem

I went to looking and the only entrance I could find was where the electrical cable went inside in the far back of it's compartment. Instead of try to seal that hole which would have been difficult I went down to Walmart and purchased a plastic funnel with about a 10" diameter. I cut the spout off to about an inch long and split the funnel so I could open it up and slip it around the cable and added a hose clamp to make sure it would stay in place just below where the cable went through it's door. I never had to catch another mouse.

I have all the stuff to solder (I've done a lot of it) but my hands shake too bad now.

If it's from essential tremors primidone is your friend. If it's Parkinson's I have no clue.

Primidone does a good job of controlling my tremors but wreaks havoc with my prostate.
I can't raise prostate meds (doxazosin) because it runs my blood pressure to low.
So, I drink a beer or glass of wine before I eat and am able to feed myself without slinging food all over the room. :o :)
