Howa actions
« on: March 08, 2004, 06:45:26 AM »
A buddy of mine is planning to have a 35 Whelen built and is dead set on a stainless steel action.  He is think of buying a howa and having it rebarreled.

Does antbody have any experience with Howa's? If so could you please share your experiences or impressions
Are the triggers decent?

Thanks,
John

Howas are generally good actions.  The quality is up there with most major brands.  Granted, most people use Remington 700 actions to customize their rifles, but you certainly can't go wrong with a Howa action (or barrelled action).

I too have a strong preference for stainless, and a .35 Whelen.  In fact, I too have been considering a Howa barrelled action as well.

I purchased a stainless steel Howa barrel/action in 270 with 22" barrel last year and put it in a custom stock.  It shoots 1 1/4 groups at 200 yards.  The trigger is adjustable and its a pretty good trigger.  It takes Remington 700 scope base mounts.

I feel you can't go wrong with this barrel/action from Howa in any caliber. If you want the same thing in 24" barrel then you would have to order a Weatherby Vanguard which is the same rifle as the Howa, but with a longer barrel.

:D I've been shooting a Howa 30.06 for years and have been very pleased with it. Where can you find SS howa actions or barreled actions for sale?

I'm sure lots of shops sell them or could get them for you.  Here's the link of a shop that sells over the internet (FFL required obviously).  I haven't done any comparison shopping so I can't say how prices are.
