Sen. Schumer declares Tuesday an ‘unofficial holiday’ and signals new push for adult-use marijuana legalization

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has a message for all you stoners out there: Happy 4/20, dude!

The normally staid Senate Majority Leader jumped on the weed bandwagon Tuesday, proclaiming April 20 an “unofficial holiday” and demanding new action to legalize marijuana.

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) (Alex Brandon/AP)
Schumer even proclaimed his unlikely solidarity with the millions of Americans who mark April 20 as an annual day to celebrate their favorite herb.

“Today is what you might call a very unofficial American holiday,” Schumer said. The powerful Democrat admitted that he has had a change of heart on the issue over the years and now supports a wide-ranging raft of legislative efforts to make adult-use weed legal nationwide and also roll back the harmful effects of the failed “War on Drugs.”

Mr. Charles Glenn “Charlie” Nelson, age 73, of Payneville, KY passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his residence. RIP Charlie, we'll will all miss you. GB

Exactly. For years the government told us that MJ is immoral. When the government suddenly realized they could become either the dealer or a mob protection racket for the dealers suddenly MJ became moral just like alcohol.

I directly participated in "the war on drugs" for over 20 years. After about 2 years in, it occurred to me that it was more about the government not being able to tax marijuana.
I've said many times over the last 40+ years that if they legalized it, they would take the mob, and cartel money out of it.

Well, since all those smart folks in DC have spent us into oblivion, marijuana represents (to them) a new revenue to tax.
Congress, the White House, and all its alphabet agencies, are SHAMELESS.

Out of the park on that one.

It's just like alcohol. The only reason the government considers moonshine immoral is because they're not getting any tax revenue out of it. They will send you to jail if you make moonshine strictly because you didn't gave them any money. But if you pay for the government permits and pay the government its tax tribute then they have no problem with you selling that exact same alcohol.

When politicians push for legislation like this. You can take it to the bank that it has to do with money and lots of it.

Other states have found to their regret, that there is not so much money in it as they thought, since after the grower accepts government inspections, permits, testing and other regulations..the product (?) ends up costing more that the stuff available on the street, and t e street stuff being more .
..And of course, if the "undocumented pharmacist" finds the government weed getting stronger..then he can lace his product with fentanyl ..or what ever it takes.

In any case, the ones due to suffer most are the innocent people driving on the same highways or depending upon situations where clear thinking is required of the operator !

   Hey, who knows...

 A) Maybe some politicians WANT addicts to buy from their own sponsored, "undocumented pharmacist".

B)..And of course, legalizing the crap, opens the market for them.

 C) ...And gives the Schumer types another way to...... "grab guns"!

That's what it all boils down to. Once the government figured out how to become the dealer then suddenly weed became moral.

My mother worked at one particular
nursing home for a couple of decades,
and saw many former dopeheads
in addition to the elderly people.
I guess if they live after they get
toasty enough, they can also go
sit in a diaper and drool and relish
their dope glory days

...And the sad part is, that some of the same ones who were smoking dope, eating mushrooms, imbibing LSD and licking toads heads..are running the country today.

   ...Guess we shouldn't be surprised...
