Cities across US brace for possible unrest following Chauvin verdict
As the nation awaits a verdict by the jury in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, President Biden said on Tuesday he is "praying the verdict is the right verdict."

Briefly speaking with reporters at the White House, the president discussed his call on Monday with the family of George Floyd, the Black man in Minnesota who died after he was seen on video – handcuffed – saying "I can't breathe" as Chauvin kneeled on Floyd's neck. His death sparked nationwide protests last spring and summer over police brutality against minorities and systemic racism.

Chauvin is charged with second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd's death. He has pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

Floyd's brother, Philonise Floyd said in an interview on NBC News early Tuesday morning that the president had called the Floyd family on Monday after the jury began deliberations in the trial.

"I can only imagine the pressure and anxiety they're feeling, and so I waited until the jury was sequestered, and I called," Biden explained. "I wasn't going to say anything about it, but Philonise said today on television, and he accurately said it was a private conversation because Joe understands what it was like to go through loss. They're a good family, and they're calling for peace and tranquility, no matter what that verdict is. I'm praying that verdict is the right verdict, which I think it's overwhelming, in my view. I wouldn't say that unless the jury was sequestered now."

Biden called the Floyd family last year – soon after Floyd's death, which came during the 2020 presidential election campaign – and later the then-presidential candidate traveled to Houston to meet with the family and express is condolences.

I doubt there's any way Chauvin can get a fair trial in that town. I myself was for conviction until slowly but surely the truth slowly oozed out .

My prayers go to Chauvin and his family, but the tremendous pressure on the jury makes an acquittal doubtful.

I was open to a lesser charge, but certainly not murder1!  Is it common to charge and convict on multiple charges like that?
   It seems most cases go after the highest charge they believe they can prove..

   I didn't know they could slap on several "possible" convictions..hoping to get at least one to stick..

  Personally, I suspect they were afraid of  their cities being burned.

    If the cities don't burn now... there are going to be some very disappointed looters !

Somewhere in a different time and different place I have this vague perception that "double jeopardy" is not a good thing.  This case looks to me like triple jeopardy.  How many times can you kill the same being?  It would have been simpler if the cop had just popped the guy with a single shot from his sidearm.   

It sure looks like to me that cops need to have a contingency plan, or maybe a bunch of different plans to cover themselves when things go sideways.  I would expect a lot of  cops to be looking for a different line of work.

The latest one was a cop shot and killed a 16 year old black girl who was about to stab another black girl in the neck. The knife was literally in swing and the cop put 3 great shots on her and saved the other girls life but the headlines read "white cop shoots 16 year old black girl".

I can't believe it either. Cops are not allowed to do their job anymore. What will happen is the good qualified cops will leave, and police forces will be filled in incapable people.    2) The media said that Chauvin, when the verdict was issued, quietly stood, put his hands behind his back..was cuffed and walked off.
   My nephew, who is in law enforcement quipped,  "just imagine where things would be today, if only Floyd George, had done the same !

It's not just leftists putting our nation into crippling debt. Trump increased the debt by 7.8 Trillion. Bush increased it by almost 6 Trillion. Reagan tripled the debt when he was in office. Obama was the worst at 8.5 Trillion but Trump and Bush weren't that far behind him.
