The News Medias Fascination With "TITLES"
« on: September 11, 2020, 03:42:38 AM »
Maybe it's just me but, Bush, Clinton, Obama, Carter, and others ain't president anymore.
Newton Gingrich ain't "Mr Speaker" any more ect, ect, ect.

Why are they referred to as such then? Respect? I don't get it!

Former president, former speaker, former secretary of state, I get.

I was a police Sgt and Sgt Investigator for many years, but I ain't anymore. I don't expect to be called Sgt by anyone.  It would be weird.

Maybe it's just me. What do you guys think about it?

Calling persons by past titles is NOT the correct application. However, people will often as a show of respect, refer to another by the highest title or achievement they ever held.

Perhaps this could also serve as a rough estimation of the respect the person speaking has for the one he/she is speaking about !

Many many people these days have
very little or no self esteem or sense
of self worth.  They don't want to
feel dependent on God or feel like
they need salvation. Since they realize
how low they are in the scheme of
things,  they look in other directions
like "heritage " and such as that.
Hyphenating their name and their
nationality also makes them feel
some self importance.
Lots of folks feel like they
need some kind of title to
boost their prestige quotient
