Indianapolis 500
« on: August 25, 2020, 09:16:06 AM »
They ran Indy yesterday, minus fans as Penske wimped out, but as I had no TV I could not watch it.

Now Gomer Pyle singing back home in Indiana was actually a highlight of the year for me but he stopped , and died, some time back so it is not the same any way.

I still like to watch the start and finish.

Sato, a much maigned, at least by online racing know it alls won for the second time.

I will have to check the racing forums to see how badly they pee and moan about that.

That is one race I really, really, really want to attend before I die; they also say the pre-race parade down town, though not hyped, is just as good as the much hyped ones from Rose Bowl and Thanksgiving.

Haven't been very interested in such racing in recent years, so I had to search what engines they are using.  It looks like they are using either Chevy or Honda engines in a 2.2 L displacement.
That's some miles from the old Offenhauser of Novi engines of yesteryear. Harry Miller designed Offenhauser engines...same man who designed the engines for the amazing Deusenbergs.
One huge surprise, probably the last Indy race I watched, was when Jimmy Clark just ran away from the field, driving a lotus.  He was running a small Ford V8 in that car.   That race was revolutionary... making the old Indy roadsters obsolete in just one day, and in just 500 miles.
"They have the guns and therefore we are for peace and for reformation through the ballot. When we have the guns, then it will be through the bullet"      (Saul Alinsky) ...hero of the left..
