What happens next?
« on: December 13, 2019, 12:41:25 PM »
I'll throw this out for comments. The post office delivered a package I ordered the wrong house down the road a ways. I called the PO and told them the tracking shows delivered to me but it's not in my mailbox. I thought porch pirates until they could tell me it was scanned down the road and was delivered wrong. Then he hinted I should just go look in my neighbors mailbox for my package. I told him not on your life, it's a felony to take something from someone else's mailbox (he should know that it's stamped right into the box). So he's going to try to retrieve my package tomorrow, but what if those people say what package? I don't know if it was shipped insured or not. The PO already told me they screwed up do they reimburse me for my loss if it's not insured? And no I don't know these neighbors or exactly which house but it seems clear the post office does. I do live in a small town and they may put it in my mailbox on their own tomorrow that's what I do with mis-delivered mail.

Also, this is in no way a swipe at the US Postal Service. I think 99% of the time they do a great job for cheap. I think sending something coast to coast for the price of a stamp and knowing it'll make it is a real deal in todays world.

Most people will do the right thing.  I had some steel targets fall off the truck shelf, in tyvek envelope, and went right into another box.  The neighbor called my number, off the ship doc, and I went picked them up.  Since the PO, or I had no ideas he got them, he could have easily kept them with no one the wiser.  In your case, the PO knows and can press the issue if need be.

Well what happened next was whoever had my package left it in my mailbox. Once again my faith in my fellow man is refreshed. I hope this would happen everywhere not just small town USA.

i ordered some stuff about this time last year, and
according to all the tracking info it was delivered in
a timely fashion to the local postal facility where it
immediately disappeared into thin air.
i had to get the postal inspector to open an investigation
on it, and they sure enough tracked it down to the local
P.O. with the photos and all, but couldn't or wouldn't
say where it went once it was received there.
i told the person in charge, well it just didn't vanish.
it has to be somewhere if all the photos yall have show
it there. i got in touch with the place that shipped my
goods and they graciously sent a new order out to me,
but the case of the original package never got solved
and they more or less didn't give a rat's rear orifice
that someone in their employ either threw it away or
stole it.
i guess as long as they can draw their pay everything is
fine and dandy. i know that if i were responsible for a
parcel like that and had no explanation for it's disposition,
and couldn't come up with it, i'd either have to pay to
cost of the merchandise and shipping or get fired, most
likely both.
