Full potential comes from a 26". A 24" will drop about 150 fps but still gives excellent results. 22" is about the minimum. Belted mags use a pretty good charge of slow burning powder and need a longer barrel to achieve optimum results.

Personally I don't do magnum rifles BUT if I were going to I'd not want less than a 24" with a 26" being preferred.

As a ruel, the more powder a round has as it's load, the longer the barrel. The Mags like slow burning powder,so 26" would be the ruel.To push the bullet up to MAG specks.Non MAG rounds 18" to 24" is fine I like the 18" barrel myself.

A 26" barrel is the way to go.  I don't go under 24" for my standard calibers.  Lawdog
