turkey hunting barrel for T/C encore
« on: March 30, 2004, 06:17:46 AM »
Do any of you know if I can use the 12 guage barrel with f, m and i/c chokes for both deer hunting and turkey hunting? I own the t/c encore muzzleloader and would like to find a barrel to do both. And what shells should I use?
Thanks

My Remington 870 did double duty for the two years before I got my Encore.  You should have NO problem adapting to both situations.  A full choke with some Remington Hevi-Shot turkey loads will down any gobbler.  Switch over to the Imp/cyl choke and Brenneke slugs should be perfect medecine for your deer fever  :-D .

Sometimes those turkey chokes will shoot some impressive patterns with buckshot.  Most folks think that is too constricting for buckshot, but a local gunsmith used to build custom turkey chokes and some of them would shoot 00 buck unbelievably well.

Suggest you re the post about turkey barrels for pig hunting on the TC rifles forum.

I called both Remington about their buck shot shells and TC about the turkey chokes and both advised against shooting buck shot through the turkey choke.

Probably the conservative legal approach, but I decided I didn't want to split my barrel the week turkey season opens in Oklahoma.
