I enjoyed reading the comments below the article. I don't wonder how he shot "hisownself" (hat tip to William). I am confused about why he was bowling at a bowling alley with a saturday night special in his pocket. Usually gangstas hang around the pool tables and cigarette machines.

Designers have a saying that when a fool proof design is implemented, a better fool will come along to challenge it. Can you imagine a gun company designing safety precautions to prevent a case like this?

I actually have a friend whom shot himself twice accidentally thinking it was a burn from the muzzle the first time then giving into the pain on the second he looked and saw a strange black line on his leg. Bullet went through his pant leg, under the skin, and barely tore the muscle. 1st one just "nicked" him lol. Don't know the name of the position but it's on your side, feet downrange with the pistol resting on your calf. Can't say i recommend it with short barreled .22's if you're not gunna pay attention.

Well lets see... I once fell down a flight of basement stairs with a 9mm striker fired pistol held inside my wasteband with a belt clip -no holster.   Got bruised up pretty good but the gun did not fire. 

Another time I slipped on a wet bridge at a golf course and fell square on a .38 snub nosed revolver in a Galco IWB holster... another good bruise but the gun did not go off. 

This dude is either very unlucky or he needs to invest in a better gun and a pocket holster.

There are morons everywhere. I was present at this hospital when this incident occurred. Just for the record, the gun the police took from this guy was NOT a .357. I saw them take a cheap .380 away from him before they took him away. He even said that it was in his pocket with his keys! He didn't actually hit anyone--- the bullet bounced off the granite tiled floor and then stopped at the plate glass door without breaking it. I pointed out the bullet to the lady APD officer that was there taking statements. The six people were actually peppered on the ankles with shards from the tile. They were examined in the ER, determined to be uninjured, and released. (I know the ER charge nurse.)

This folks is why they make pocket holsters.   It's also not a good idea to put anything in the same pocket as your Rosco, even if it is in a holster.   And for the ladies please don't dump your handgun into the bottom of your hand bag along with your house keys, cell phone and tampons.
