870 forend swap
« on: April 02, 2013, 06:04:42 AM »
I bought a new forend and the removal tool to swap out the one on my Remington 870 12ga. Is there any tricks or tips I should know before I do it? Anything to watch out for? Seems like a pretty standard job. Thanks

Hey Terry, yup a simple job. If you've already stripped it down to its basic components, barrel, forearm w/ slide arms, bolt and carrier..then the job is mostly over. Hardest part is the two arm stops inside the receiver that keep the bolt from coming out. Press the one on the left side of the receiver first, then the right one and the forearm comes off. Use that tool to unscrew the big nut on the muzzle end of the forearm and slide the whole tube off. Everything in reverse to reassemble. Make sure and lay the unloaded shotgun on a towel or blanket to keep from scratching anything up. A good time to do a spring cleaning on the hard to reach spots. Good luck and let us know if you have specific questions.  jeff
