Picked up a project 98k. Action is is in good working condition along with the barrel. It is a Polish receiver marked 790/P.F.K./WARSZAWA/1926.

Happened a lot when milsurps were $50. I have a couple of similar small ring 8mm actions. At least you got a Timney trigger with it.  :)

My Dad sporterized multiple O3s, 03-A3s and Mausers back in the 50s & 60's. If I had them all in original condition today I'd be a rich man. I did manage to 'un-sporterize' one of his early WWII Nazi marked K98k rifles but it's not all matching anymore.  :'(

I've been half-heartedly looking for a 98 "Bubba Sporter" for a while.  I'd like an 8mm and enjoy cleaning up someone else's butchery.   ;)

Yes it is fun. The last rescued M98 is a 358 Norma now.

With this one, I'll keep it 8x57 and slim the stock down. Someone did jewel the bolt and put it in a descent stock that just needs to be slimmed down.

Looks like the last hole by the back of the front receiver may have been drilled through the locking lug abbuttment. Check to make sure your bolt will function smoothly when closing and opening. Frank

My $20 german 98k 8mm mauser project came in at under $150 total.  She's a twin to the german sniper rifle.  I just wanted another hunting rifle to play with at the range too.  Barrels can be found at www.e-gunparts.com  I did put mine in its orginal german stock too.   I would build on it, its too purdy to waste.

It's going to ER Shaw this week to be fitted with a featherweight 22" tube in 6.5x55. I have a CZ550 6.5x55 but it is heavy. Well built though. I believe I can put together a pretty light weight sporter with this action. I have an extra Mark X trigger guard that fits it nicely.
