The problem with mental health requirements is defining them. It could be a very widedeep sweep that could possibly ban many a millions from being able to own a gun. Here's why: there are Dems who hunt and shoot and want to preserve their rights, and there are Repubs who are squishy gun-grabbers. It's easy to bash the Dems on this - God knows I've done it  - but we'll need those few, and if they see us (gunowners generally, those who post publicly and outloudly) as particularly partisan... that's not going to be helpful to the cause.


So take the Democrat/Obama bashing elsewhere, I'd say. That'll be a tall order for some.

the election is over and ob won. any discussion about what could have been, what should have been, is useless. we have to deal with what is!
i believe that the president will use executive orders to make sweeping changes in the present laws. i think that he truely believes that it is his destiny to make such changes. he is borderline delusional and as such he firmly believes the crap he spits out. he thinks he is on the same level as Lincoln, Roosevelt, JFK and others and he must leave a mark in history.
yep real chance the supreme court steps in two or three years after the fact. then again they may not. the left and obama see this as their last best chance to make these changes and they are going all out to get it done.
this man is no different than other meglomaniacs in history and that makes he and his power dangerous to our freedoms.

It looks like in NY where the republicans and conservative dems, who control the NYS senate,  have caved to the Bloomberg liberals and are set to pass one of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. Magazine capacities -automatic rifles AND handguns, will be limited to 7 rounds. You will have 2 years to sell your non-complying weapon out of NY otherwise you'll be subject to arrest. Since most auto pistols magazines are designed for 10 or more this will effectively end the ownership of auto handguns. The M1 Garand will likely be considered illegal along with many 22 rifles. Don't kid yourself once the libs win in NY and since the repubics are a beat up group in Congress sooner or later it will be a national law.

                               Well said Redtail. I think another problem for gunowners is the general public just does not know that much about firearms. They confuse semi-automatics with machine guns. A 10/22 is liable to be classified as an assault weapon. As far a mental health, I once read normal was only a setting on the dryer.
