accuracy assistance question

I am just starting to work with a norinco sks I bought new around 87. I took out couple weeks ago and seemed to shoot all over the place, like foot or bigger groups at 100 yds. I brought home and cleaned very well and worked on getting rid of all cosmolene I could. Went out yest again and it seemed to shoot decent at 50 yds for 30-40 rounds then groups opened up and stray flyers started. Of course my first thought is barrel coppering. But when I clean this gun I don't even get any green or blue from cleaners and powder cleans up in few passes. So I am wondering if I need to use greese instead of oil for lub on bolt rail areas. I would welcome other ideas as I don't think barrel is fouling to cause the gun to degrade accuracy so badly after so few rounds. This is chrome lined barrel and is like mirror when ever looking down it.

I'm no sks expert but autoloading rifles need grease on cam surfaces and other high impact friction points. Oil won't stay put so the film breaks down..not good..metal on metal!! You might check stock fit as recoil can alter wood to metal fit and thus accuracy can change..

I have never known anyone who was interested in accuracy with an AK.  I don't know what your expectations are, but if you want a highly accurate weapon you might want to consider another platform.

He was discussing the sks and only accurate rifles are interesting.. The sks I've had contact with were all fairly accurate, the ak's not so much.

as a rule, most sks's don't group
all that great hot.
if you get a fist-sized 3 shot
group you've done fairly good.
too many barrel attachment points
for it to group hot. they're built
for reliability and ruggedness and
to shoot americans with anyway,
not for moa. you do need to get all
the cosmoline out of the action though.
take the stock and gas tube off and completely
clean and re-lube it . that cosmoline is
a rust preventative, not there for lubrication.


i still wouldn't trade mine off though.
