Contender hammer will not drop.
« on: March 21, 2013, 05:52:46 AM »
Has anyone had this problem.  The hammer will cock, when I pull the trigger I hear the sound of a dry fire but the hammer does not drop.  It is at a local gunsmith that is closed this week.......Just asking, does it matter if the hammer select is on rimfire, in the middle on safe or on centerfire?
If it is in the middle setting on safe will the hammer fall?
Thanks for any ideas.

The selector on the hammer allows the hammer to fall no matter what position it is in.  Do you have a barrel installed when you were trying this?

yes, there is a barrel in place.  I called Thompson yesterday they said it could be one of several malfunctions internally. I'm going to give my local gunsmith another week then send it to Thompson.

Have you replaced the bolt attaching the stock to the frame? I repaced that bolt however it was a bit longer and I could not cock the hammer.

Remove the stock and see if the problem goes away.
