Too much thump on the back end maybe?  A good recoil pad really tames them.  The Handi grip made a noticeable difference on mine.

Or that ya gotta reload...  So... more for the rest of us.

I think many folks are cutting back on calibers they own due to the cost of shooting them.

Anyone shooting a 17" 45-70 rifle? ;D BOOM on back with feet up in the AIR....HELP ME....

I spent too much on Christmas or I would have snapped up one of them by now...  I don't think it's a worn out or obsolete round in the least.  It's been with us for over a century because it works...

Well I bought one...  lol  I love the .45-70, but wanted a 22" barrel to go with my 32" bc barrel.  The BC gets a little heavy in my type of stand.  lol

Your right Jason,  It aint worth a damn.  It aint got enough velocity to even make a lead bullet expand.  I dont know why our Government was stupid enough to think that such a weak cartridge would kill anything.    :-\

Yea, I am.
Well 16 & 3/4" close enough.
Matches my 16 & 3/4" shorty 12ga 3" mag.

I already have 10 45-70s of different brands and lengths so I don't think I need anymore.
I did look at one of the new double 45-70s being imported and to be honest, I wasn't impressed.
To light of barrels, cheep looking wood, not the best sights.
The price was $769.00 + tax.
To much for just a play toy of marginal quality IMO.

Just because of this I went down to the cave and loaded up a full case of Trail Boss behind a 340gr. cast bullet, stepped out back, guestimated where my 50yd. gong should be in the 16" of snow and busted it out with a shot.
Works for me.......

I would have been way all over them if I hadn't stumbled upon a complete Handi 45-70 in a pawn shop the other day, mine for the princely sum of $169.
