Synthetic stock bedding

I'm having a problem with my SB2 30-06 The barrel is hard against the right hand side of the barrel channel and about 3/16th" space on the left side. I looked in the FAQ under the synthetic stock floating, but before I mess anything up, I would like to make sure that I'm drilling the right side of the forearm. When you say "drill the forend pocket out to ½" " are you referring to the inside or outside of the forearm and how deep ?

I can't help answer your exact question, however, a 1" dowel rod and some adhesive backed rolled sandpaper works great. Just be sure to clean the sandpaper often as the plastic fills in around the grit. Also, if you ever consider glass bedding a synthetic forend, you're in for a lesson. Due to the content of the "plastics" used, glass won't stick to it very well at all. Earlier this year I spoke to several stockmakers and they all agreed that they would need a minimum order of 250 forends to make it worth the cost to build a mold.

See Off Center Forend Fix, that will center the barrel in the channel.  ;)

Thanks, but I don't want to sand the channel because one side would be thinner than the other. I may just play around with it and try a few things.

You say its a problem.....throwing the shots from pressure? Or is it just cosmetic? (I have been ignoring some cosmetic issues and seem happier for it  ;D ).

gcrank1 is correct, shoot it first, and see if it (off centered fore end) affects the accuracy of the gun.  If it's not broke, don't fix it.

I haven't had the time to shoot it yet. Seems like something is always getting in the way. My son has a week off for the holidays and we'll try and get out and try it. I was just trying to be proactive. I can't see it shooting good the way it is.

Just had a thought about this 'bedding' not wanting to stick to plastics; how about some of that new generation stuff they use in the auto-body shops for repairing plastic body parts?
