Handi Barrels - Who makes em?
« on: December 13, 2012, 04:00:31 PM »
I'm sure the more long term members know this but I was curious who now makes the Handi rifle barrels and who has made them in the past.   Also are they button rifled, hammer forged, stress relieved etc?

I think Marlin makes some, if not all of them. I assume they are button rifled as that is the fastest and easiest way to cut rifling in a barrel. As for the rest of it, I doubt it, for the price they sell for.
I have more guns than I need, but not as many as I want.

That's my guess too. Which begs the question why can't we get a .338 bore?  ::)

Thanks, Dinny

We expected a few new chamberings after Marlin bought H&R (then Rem bought Marlin).  And the 'Why don't we get' started right out with the 'Marlin' calibers!  Since Handi's love rimmed cartridges, my first thought was the Marlin .308 and the .338!  But big corporations do things that don't make sense to the rest of us.  But that is not answering the first question, who makes the barrels.  I think we need Tim to help us out on that one.  Dinny is right, Marlin makes some or all of them now (I think), but we need someone who know definatively.  44 Man

Can't tell ya who makes em now for sure, but Marlin made em up until Dec 2009 when Tim Looney left Remington. At that time H&R was planning to start making some barrels in house, dunno if that happened or not.
