Youth Stock
« on: December 10, 2012, 04:27:40 PM »
Most of my rifles don't fit into my shoulder very well . I don't think I have average length arms . I bought a set of Choate Composite Black youth forend and stock . Has anyone else ever done this ? I probably won't install them until after Christmas . It was a lot less expensive than cutting the stock down to size .

I'm 6'2", so I am above average in arm length.  But during the winter when I am wearing a heavy coat I use a youth stock.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I trim my stocks a little, or use a youth stock like Rog mentioned, when you have winter clothes on its tough to use a standard lenght stock even more so if it is a hurry up there it is kinda thing...

Thanks for the replies .
The stock and forearm cost me $45 and the shipping was about $13 ( which is rediculous ) from Midway . It is still much less that having the gunsmith cut the stock down . Since the composite stock is hollow and light I have to figure out what to pack in the stock to add weight .

I shorten the butt of the stock and refit the pad on several of mine.

My .223 lightweight came with the synthetic youth stock. I like the short handiness of it just the way it is.

I may put a heavy weight plastic bag with sand in the butt of the stock . I prefer some weight to a rifle .

I have the NEF in 25-06 , 223 , 12 ga turkey and a 50 cal Huntsman . All are separate guns with individual stocks . If I like the shorter stock , I will either attempt to cut one down or buy a couple more Composite sets .

It would cost me between $75 - $100 to have a gunsmith do the job .

Im 6'1" with fairly long arms so the youth LOP was too short for me (and I dont hunt bundled up, hunched in a blind when its really cold). As a 'handi' length it was good for light kickers, and a slip on made it barely OK for me, but the g-kids grew long & tall too so it went to a better home.
