Bought a .45lc/.410 survivor for more than I should have paid... I despise that stock, it is so uncomfortable it isn't even funny.

Any suggestions as to how to make it not so damned uncomfortable?

Put a slip-on recoil pad on it, many have done it before. We don't allow buying/selling/trading in discussion forums, that's what the classifieds are for, list it for trade in the H&R Want to Trade forum below on the index page.  ;)

Put a regular set of stocks on it. When I got mine I sold the Survivor stock and forearm and bought a set from Choate.
Do yourself another favor and get some sights on it... I had the barrel drilled and tapped for a WGRS rear sight and a Remington ramp with fiber optic insert on the front. Now it's comfortable and accurate. ;D

Didn't intend to break any rules.

I swapped the stocks from my 20gauge stub project for now.  The OAL is already too long on the survivor stock, adding a slip on will just make it worse. There is a youth NEF 20gauge at my LGS its laminated and looks slick, points real nice. Im getting more and more impressed with the stocks without the pistol grip.

i had the survivor stock on my 308 and took the plastic butt stock pad off and used a slip on so the length of pull was not too long.  I also used an elastic shell holder and put some camping padding under that for a better cheek weld.  not a bad stock but I agree with the uncomfortableness.

I like my survivor stocks...but not on a heavy kicker.  I have them on a 243.

Stock fit is subjective.  I like Handi grips.  Alot don't. Put it on the classifieds.  Someone will trade or buy.  Pachmyer makes a rubber cheekpad that may fit it, same as the 'varmint' stock if that's what you need to make it work.

I put a 20 gauge tracker II barrel on my survivor frame. Carries and shoots very good.

I currently have the survivor stocks on my Pardner 20gauge, I bought it to stub into a .45acp rifle.   its possible I will like it more with a 17in barrel and much less kick.

I really want a straight non pistol grip wood stock, like a youth model... Im sure ill find something for it if I do not like it when im done.

I bought a cheek piece for one of those folding stocks for a 10//22, ( can't remember the name, dragnought(?)) and it works great with my 17 HMR. It  fit on the butt stock nicely and I screwed it in place. You can find them on-line at Cheaper then Dirt and places like that.

 >:( >:( WOW  ;D ;D <first use of smileys.  does GBO have any smiley limits for posts?

I cannot believe what a trip out to the workshop did for this stock.  I had swapped my wood stocks off my other gun onto it so I could shoot it comfortably.  When swapping it back i noticed the poor casting finish and casting flash. The buttstock base was crooked and did not fit well... when I leveled the barrel in the vise and checked square  the bottom threaded insert was almost 2 mm longer than the top and there was a 1mm bump on one side between making the pad even more crooked.. with a little bit of time on the belt sander I got everythign as square as I cold without real machine tools.  Its dark so I cannot test fire it but it feels better when pulled hard against my shoulder.

Chamfered the edges of both the butt plate and the stock itself so it looks 10,000 times better.  left it as a 20gauge and shot some federal multipurpose loads out of it... no sore shoulder, so its an improvement already. removed all the flash with a knife and pried the sling loop off the pistol grip.... does anyone know why that was there?... Maybe Ill have to change the title of the post, "why didnt anyone tell me they were so poorly finished"
