Up above this txt just above smilies when you are composing on left side you have options for Bold, Itilacs underline and score thru. Somehow you selected the score thru.

I will defineately have a good supply of FMJ. The lil Maggie has a real jacket unlike the LR. FMJ is a better penetrator for "harder" targets.  Then a good HP or controlled exp bullet. The market is rich with selections right now. I have liked the good dot for years. Now Speer has there own instead of under there cousins CCI label. The newer Hornady critical Defence shows much promice. I only just got a brick of Winny PDX to try...

Short of that. Most any loading will be of sufficient accuracy to meet my requirements.

It's not optimal for everything and defensive performance will be lacking. But cooler heads prevail. Aim small miss small you know all the anaelogys. :)

The Maggie is a long time favorite of the NE poacher. It's dropped more than its share of large big game. Many with head shots. Do not underestimate the little Maggie. Energy is far and above the LR all with a minuscule difference in size and weight.

To my mind and of coarse within reason cost is not a factor. Longevity is a minor one. As has been said I agree firearms will not be the hardest commodity to acquire.

I also am not considering being honkered down in a location. At least not inicislly and certinally not here in the NE. IF neuks happen most of this area is likely to be one of first hit and uninhabitable.

FMJs will do little meat damage on small game, so iffn ya wants to eat it..........though my WW Dynapoint 45gr.lead HP is no where near as much a meat destroyer as 'real' Mag HP's, but you need some of them too. My H&R Maggie shoots the WW SuperX in FMJ and HP to basically the same POI. They arent as quiet as my old lead bullet loads in the 22Hornet but no where near as loud as a 223. Silence would be golden.......
Did Savage ever make a 22M/410 mdl 24?

I have a brick of Dynapoints. I tried them outa the Henry and H&R. They shot about average accuracy. Entirely adaquitely.

When I get the new Maggie Versa PAC and a nice day (and the time ;) ) ill hit the range with a doz different bullets and find out just what's best!!

Spot on no matter what FMJ is gonna be there as will a Controlled exp bullet. ;)

I have seen Maggie Savages BUT where they factory, this I do not know.

I have a beautiful old 22/410 with allot of color in The receiver and nice wood. It shoots under 2" with the teeny tiny sights and my eyes. I hesitate to re chamber BUT you never know!?! :)

A lot of great replies. There's plenty of food for thought here, that's for sure. If I couldn't have a H&R .223 a .22lr would be a possible next choice. I knew a guy who thought a Ruger 10/22 was the end all be all gun for him. At the range he ONLY practiced dumping a 25 rd. mag. as fast as possible. Never saw him shoot for group or anything else. Never any other gun. Just rip off a full mag as fast as he could. Kinda limited but I wouldn't want to be in front of that thing. Another friend had a grandma who shot a griz, once, at arm's length, with a .22 and dropped it. It was standing up, the single shot came up and went up thru the throat into the brain. Wild luck, but there was witnesses.
