Iran fires on our drone in int airspace.
« on: November 08, 2012, 11:29:20 AM »
Iran fired at unarmed US drone, Pentagon says  Published November 08, 2012
FoxNews.com      Iran fired on an unarmed U.S. drone last week as it was hovering in international airspace, the Pentagon announced Thursday.
Spokesman George Little said the incident, which marks the first time the Iranians have fired on a U.S. drone, occurred Nov. 1 at 4:50 a.m. ET. He said the unarmed, unmanned drone was conducting "routine surveillance" over the Persian Gulf when it was "intercepted" by Iran. He said the MQ1 Predator drone, which was not hit, was not in Iranian airspace.
According to Little, two Iranian jets fired twice, missing on both attempts -- the drone headed away from the Iranian coast, landing safely soon after at an undisclosed location. The Iranian jets pursued the drone for a short period before giving up.

Little said the U.S. government has protested to the Iranians. Asked about how the U.S. could respond, he said: "We have a wide range of options from diplomatic to military."
He would not say whether there were actually plans for a military response. Asked if this should be considered an act of war, Little said he didn't want to get into "legal characterizations" of the event.

Little stressed that the drone was flying 16 nautical miles off the coast of Kuwait in international waters, and never entered the 12-mile limit that would constitute Iranian territory.
The Pentagon announced the incident as the administration imposed a new round of financial sanctions against Iranian officials and entities. They marked the first sanctions since President Obama's re-election Tuesday. According to the Treasury Department, the move was "related to the Iranian government's human rights abuses, its support of terrorism and Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps."

The drone encounter comes after a U.S. drone crashed in Iran late last year. Iran claimed to have shot it down, but U.S. officials said it merely malfunctioned and crashed.
Little said the U.S. will continue to run surveillance missions in the region.
Fox News' Justin Fishel contributed to this report.

I just heard on the radio that the US warned Iran that if they attack a Drone again, we will retaliate. I can only hope so.

I agree we should retaliate such threats from a pee-on country. Keep the foot solders out and let the drones prove their worth.

Like I said in another post, the F22 Raptor has already been flown pilotless with speeds and maneuvers
that a human pilot could never withstand. Or execute with the same precision .
A Chinese General once said. The American milllitary combat personal would not be the problem we would face in an all out war. What would be is the fact that they now possess some very terrifying
machines. You bet we do!  And getting better everyday.

What's now well within the realm of possibility ? I don't know. But ill be back!

I wondering, right now, how the peanut gallery here would respond to Iranian drones flying a few miles off NYC and Kings' Bay GA.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

This wouldnt have happened if we would just have developed our own energy resources and pulled our noses out of the arm pit of the world. Bring the drones and everyone associated with them home and let those hate mongers  in the middle east fester in their own oil.

Not really fishy in fact most modern fighters would have trouble knocking down a P-51 mustang.  These craft are simply easily capable of out turning a missle.  They also have very small signatures.

If they try to use guns well the closing speed is pretty extreme, and the jets cannot maneuver with a prop plane.  Not to mention it's a small target.

Interesting though as my cousin is a drone pilot in the USAF.

If the drone wasnt over there, we wouldnt be having this talk. How about in all this less government setting we mind our own business and quit trying to tell other countries and people how to live and what to think ?

+1. A P51 is not only maneuverable , it is very fast and can hug the treetops giving it a very confusing
signature. Just like the A10 Warthogs, pilots loved these aircraft. So did troops on the ground,
And if you were in a tank and one of these was stalking you, you would be in a very bad place at that time. The drone in question here was not controlled from the ground with a joy stick.
It's heat signature was very low and they do possess counter measure technology. A joy stick operation would only give the enemy something to lock onto like it was painted.

It is not self aware, but it does have defensive programming that is state of the art. And if armed it is well capable of plotting a solution to retaliate against an attacker. After decades of very advanced aerial combat orientated video games, im sure they have learned a thing or two about how a computer needs to react to a threat.  The problem with Iran is I bet they are years behind on owning and playing
a modern X Box video game.  It is no secret that our military brought in some of these kids that play those games all day long.

To challenge the military computers that most likely resulted in what's flying in these drones today.
And you can bet that full blown simulators were set up just for this reason. The computer learned, and there is no doubt that Top Gun fighter pilots were also used to do this. If a drone had all the experience on its hard drive that I just pointed out. Then there isn't much out there that it couldn't
evade. Imagine that same thing in the F22 Raptor ? Then yes you would have a real problem on your hands.  Sort of funny for a fighter jet project that we all heard was cancelled, but they still seem to be popping up here and there ? Perhaps it was the human element that was canceled ?

Well if you look at what industry is really on a roll right now in this country it is robotics.
With everything from prosthetics to the porn industry lol. But a simple google search will verify who is privately going all out to capitalize on this right now.

That and virtual reality, Japan is rapidly becoming a leader in this. And so is Germany and Russia.
Russia has given their sleaze industry's full reign to go for this, the spin offs could be enormous.
Folks we can not ignore the reality end of this any longer, it is coming. They all laughed at the Wright
brothers as being crazy also, and where did that lead to ?

So just ( strap on) your thinking caps and look around. Who is it that stands to make billions by being the first to actually produce a working lifelike model of one of these ? And that is only the private
sector, and modern psychology is very actively involved in this. As are the chemical, pneumatic, hydraulic, fiber optic, and electronic industry's. If a little drone can do this, what else is waiting in the wings they don't want us to know about ? Could be anything, a psycho Barbie perhaps ?

Let Iran alone. They probably have a thousand nukes now. Russia sells to anyone, so does pakistan, china, north korea, government leaders and the elite of the U.S of A.... To make enemies, to keep the, world wide trillion dollar arms industry going.
The cold war was nothing more than international bankers running the show and loaning to both sides.
Dont encourage it, the muslim brother hood will have control there soon enough. With them in control of all muslim countries, then you will see real war. The international bankers will supply both side to the tune of trillions while fomenting war that can only be called the APOCALYPSE.
Right now they need your sons and daughers to give Iran to them...They want you to bear the cost in taxes and blood.

Once again we seem to getting away from the  topic, and into another MIT type of discussion from the Engineer squad.
The Op is talking about a country firing on US aircraft in International airspace or not.
It's not about the advancement of aviation from the Kitty hawk to the F whatever.Start another thread in the potbelly stove section if you want to debate aircraft design.
