Ejector Question
« on: October 22, 2012, 03:48:51 PM »
Just wondering, does anybody know if the ejector for the VP 22LR barrel, is the same size as the ejector for all the other calibers.

I have a VP 22LR barrel with the lip (the part that goes under the rim of the shell) broken off on the ejector.  I haven't taken it apart yet, but visually, it seems that the ejector for the VP barrel is shorter than the ejector for the other calibers.  Keep in mind the bore for the 22LR barrel is off set lower, than on other Handi barrels.  Am I correct?

If the ejectors are in fact different sizes, where can I get a replacement part?

It is shorter than a standard RF ejector.  H&R will not sell you a RF ejector, they will only factory fit them.  This is to make sure the rim will never jump the ejector, if it does the rifle may fire when you close the barrel making a mess of things.  I have a standard ejector, but it won't do you any good.  Larry

OSR...looks like I made my vp22 unuseable ..  hope the ejector works correctly in your barrel...if not send it back LOL...didn't know about the factory fitting thing on rimfires...I might see if the one in my 17 hmr will work in the VP for the heck of it.

So your saying that I have to send the barrel back to H&R to get it repaired?

Only reason I know is that I broke one and tried to get a new one, no go from the factory.  The new owners may have a different policy, but I doubt it.  I do have a standard 22lr ejector I would be happy to give you, but it would take a lot of work to make it work.  Larry

Larry,

I already sent Brian a note.  I'll wait and see what he suggests.  Maybe I can get a prepaid return label.  Thanks for the information, and your offer.

I heard from Brian early this morning...he says rimfire ejectors have to be factory-fitted, which requires sending in entire rifle to Ilion...so I may hold off on sending you mine because it may not work properly anyway

trotterlg, and garb,

The policy of H&R has not changed, you do have to send the barrel and receiver back to the factory to be fitted properly.  Brian sent me a PM, gave me all info, regarding who to send it to.  It's going back to the factory today.

garb,
I'm going to take your advice, and probably see about getting a 7.62x39 barrel fitted while it's there.

Thanks all for information and advice posted.

Just a little update on the ejector problem on my VP barrel.  After sending a PM to Brian, I sent the barrel back to H&R on the 26th of October.

It actually came back on Nov.5, I missed the UPS guy twice, and had it back in my hands on Nov. 7..  The repair, including shipping both ways took just a little over a week.  That's what I call service.

A big "Thank You" to Brian.

I just hope H&R realizes what a great asset he is to their operations.

garb,

I wanted to take your advice, and get a 7.62x39mm barrel fitted while the receiver was at the factory, but I wasn't able to do so, due to H&R's new policy.  I'm hoping they change it in the future.

While, I'm talking about the barrel, anyone, have a filler screw, or know where I can get one to fit into the front sight hole?  I checked with my local gun shop, but they don't have filler screws that small in diameter.  Thanks!
