« on: September 28, 2012, 03:17:02 AM »
i got this savage-valmet 330 o/u and took it out last night at the trap range, well it started to fire both barrels after about 50 rounds, my gunsmith charges 50.00 just to take anything apart, so i think i will part it out. it,s a 20ga-12ga combo,do you think this is a good idea and will the parts sell? thanks eastbank.

Hey Eastbank,
I have not seen requests for 330 parts.  DrillingMan might have so ideas.

Did you clean the gun before you took it out?  Dont take this the wrong way, could it be possible you are double pulling the trigger and not knowing it?

I had one that did that. Oiled the trigger/hammer areas real good and it cured it.

I agree, a good cleaning would be a good start!

Personally, i'd fix it LONG before i'd part it out!

I've got one of the 333 models. I assume you are aware these were made by Valmet and can be rebarreled to center fire cartridges. Anyway, the issue is going to be a fouled trigger mechanism. You'll need to remove the stock and use a spray cleaning solvent like carb cleaner to remove the crud and then lube it. It's a fairly common issue with these shooters. I've had mine since around 1978 and I've had to clean it 3 times to fix the issue. Make sure that you orientate the safety when removing the stock and have it in the same position when reinstalling the stock. The safety can sometimes cause issues when removing/installing the stock causing just one barrel to fire. Otherwise, I prefer the 333 over any Browning or Benelli I've ever shouldered. I think it's a lot of scattergun for the bucks.

i.m now a semi expert on taking the savage 330 action apart. i first sprayed the whole trigger group(by its self out of the gun) with gun scrubber, even taking the hammers and hammer springs out and spraying some more. after drying,i sprayed kroil all over and in the trigger group, after putting it back to gether, it still had the same problem.  my next action will be to take the whole trigger group apart, down to just little parts and see if i can see any parts or small springs broken. as i will have it all broken down to small parts, maybe my gun smith will cut me a break if i need to take it to him. by the looks of the small parts that control the barrel selection and the way the safety parts work in conjuncktion with each other,i can see where they could be put out of whack by a small problem with in the group. i think it can be fixed,i,m just not sure of the cost. if i part it out i,m sure i could come out a little ahead on the deal. the barrels are 3 inch mag chamberd and i think they are not that common and the wood is in very good condition as is the forend metal. eastbank.
