S&W Pre Model 17
« on: November 01, 2012, 12:50:27 PM »
Lucked out today, picked up an old S&W in 85-90%, 5 screw and serial number on the grips matches the revover.  It is an old K-22, pre  model numbers, now woluld be a 17.  It is in excellent shape, low serial number 17xxx,  litlle holster wear on muzzzle, couple of nicks in the grips.  It fits in with my other 5 screw Ks and 1 N.  I do really like the 5 screw models as I like the workmanship that was put in the.  I was an armour for the state years ago when we carried revolvers, lucky enough to be factory trained at S&W in Springfield.  Been retired for 24 years, but have worked with S&W revolvers ever since I retired, help out a Gunsmith friend of mine.  It will get shot in the morning for sure.

Fellow also had a K-22 Model 17-2 that I got the 5 screw from.  Well I went back and traded a shotgun to him for the 17-2, so now have a pair of these beautiful old Smiths.  Both are great shooters, but the 17-2 sights are easier for my old eyes so that will become my squirrel hand gun.

Popplecop,

You gotta love the K22s. I have several pre-war as well as a very nice 17-2 as well. Best shooting revolvers ever made IMO.
