I think I'm in love..again...
« on: October 04, 2012, 04:59:14 AM »
I don't like being a cheater...but I stopped by my friendly, local gun dealer..and there she stood..  a CVA "Scout" rifle''.  Heh,heh..had you wondering for a moment, didn't I?
The one I hefted was a .44 mag, black with fluted, heavy barrel...  This little gem handled just right..and was such a size as to feel like a compact "Talo".  It is available in several calibers..but the barrels are not interchangeable (of course H&Rs aren't supposed to be either).  But for the dedicated single shot man (or woman) it is a joy to behold.
The rifles are completely ambidextrous..both the break release and the Monte Carlo work as well for lefties as as rights, like myself.
Yes, I fell in love, but my "first love" at home may well complain if I buy another gun right now..and she would be justified..
Here's a short video on the Scout:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=6Lpn7yrSL1M#!
I'm not sure of the MSRP..but my dealer had the Scout priced at $279....

BTW: I understand the Apex rifles are interchangeable:  http://www.cva.com/Apex-Rifle-from-CVA.php#specs

A 5.8 pound 35 Whelen?  It's a recoil masochist's dream rifle!

Now Ironglow, we gonna' forgive this little excursion into no man's land.  Sorta' like when you see that really pretty woman, then remember you were married.......just don't take it past the lookin' stage, or the Handi enforcement league will come to visit.... :o

Go for it IG. I've got a 44 mag Scout and it's a one hole shooter with Winchester white box ammo. You get a nice fluted barrel, great trigger, nice scope mount, etc. Don't listen to the Handiholic naysayers... the Scout's are great guns and you'll love it.

A friend arrived here last season with a Wolf BP rifle. While not a Scout its a BP version and I was impressed!

IF there had more/other calibers, I might have just had to buy one... ;) The calibers offered now I have in abundance...  ::)   They do look good...

I don't like the location of the barrel release lever.  I was handling the gun, holding it just in front of the trigger guard like I occasionally would while walking in the woods, and hit the release lever accidentally.  The gun opened. This IMHO, would not be good scenario while hunting.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.
