What happened?
« on: September 17, 2012, 11:18:08 AM »
A year ago, we were hearing from Buffalo Classic owners and from those who had questions about that rifle.  It was like a new thread came up every day.  That's the very thing that brought me to Graybeard's.  Now it seems that particular gun has faded from popularity.  Of all my guns, the B/C still remains my favorite.  I've had all sorts of rifles.  Every design.  When the B/C came out, I bought one and never looked back.  It's the one gun I'll never sell or trade.  I miss those threads.  As Steve McQueen said, "What the hell happened?"

All the questions got answered?
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

Mike, I've noticed the same thing. Back when I first found this site all I had was my BC, so I was burning up the search and hanging on every thread about it. When I decided to take the plunge and max my .357, same thing. I have noticed that the threads important to me fade out and, a few month's later the subject comes back.
Of course, we might hear more about them if Quick didn't have the server programmed to throw in the, "Everything you seek can be found in the FAQ's, Grasshopper..." reply to every post with a question mark... ::) ;)

I got it.  I shoot it.  It shoots good.  Same for my Maxi.  No SNAFU, no story.  Boring... Hope yours shoots as good as mine.

I'll post about reloads when I get some 500gr slugs; if they do good, and my shoulder still works.  Bought it and set it up just for hunting BIG critters.  Haven't seen any yet.  I know Hogzilla is out there though...

Think as if you LIFE depends on it... IT does..!  Be Well...

Well, just for conversation, what makes the BC any more desirable than it's cousin the 45-70 Handi?  Sure I would prefer the BC stock, and the barrel is longer, but what is it?  The Handi (IMO) is a quicker handling brush gun, best used as a stalking rifle in heavy cover.  While (it seems to me) the BC would be muzzle heavy, and not as easy to swing on a running target.

Again, just for conversation, not poking at a good gun nor anyone's choice.

I think most things cycle through. Mine is the only rifle I own with iron sights, and I have not had time to really wring it out and see what it will do. As for the mystique, either you get it or you don't. I cannot afford a "Quigley" rifle, nor do I want to fool with a Kentucky Rifle style muzzle loader, but there is just something about the weight and length that just hits a chord more primitive in me. My eyes are not good enough to use it in poor light so it handicaps me a bit, but the satisfaction level is off the charts. Just walking in the woods with it feels like being in a time warp, if just for a little while, where there is no you tube, no cell phones, no plastic rifles with 30 round magazines and infrared / laser sights, but there still are buffalo and passenger pigeons. Not everyone misses that world. I do.
Fortunately , there seems to be room for us all.

twoshooter, good analogy.  For nostalgia I chose a Ky type flintlock   ;) , my family was here before this great nation was a nation and that is how I connect with my ancestors.
