His and Hers Shorties
« on: September 18, 2012, 02:12:02 AM »
The Maxi shorties are just about done.  Patty's (Top) is getting a better scope and Burris medium Zee rings. and that's about it.  Hers is set up left handed, and she declined the quick take down knob and the ammo carrier.

I've got to thank George Mann for the nose job on one of the barrels.

I just loaded some 158 gr. XTP FPs over Lil' Gun.  I ran three thru the chrony and came up with 2296, 2287, 2293.......no pressure signs.  I'm not sure that this may be too quick for that bullet.  It's raining pretty hard just now, so I won't get to check them for accuracy.  I'll know soon enough.  I should make a place in the unused granary shed so I can shoot regardless of weather.  I still can't get a line locally on any 1680.  I'll be traveling in two weeks, so perhaps I can find some.

"Hers is set up left handed..."

When I read that my reaction was  ??? ?  Then I realized it's the hammer spur!

I called Hornady a couple weeks ago about using the 140 or 158 grains in the Maxi for deer.  I figured the Maxi is running around 2000 FPS give or take with 180 SSP, and the rep said way to fast for the 140 or 158's.  For Hornady bullets the 180 XTP or SSP was the way to go for a deer round.
